Basic Beading

Basic Socks

Instructor: A Good Yarn Staff                                              Class Fee: $45
Description:   Learn the traditional methods of sock knitting with double pointed needles.  Learn how to size a sock to fit, turn a heel, and more.  This is a two-session class with homework between classes.  Students should be at least an advanced beginner.  Note:  Session 1 is 1 hour, session 2 is 3 hours.

Beginning Knitting

Description:  No experience needed. Come and learn to knit - or do you need a refresher course?  Join this class where you will learn to cast on, cast off, knit and purl.   Note that we this class is offered with either "English" or "Continental" technique.  Check with the shop for more details.  One session class.

Two Socks on One Needle

Description:   Learn to knit two socks on one long circular needle.  You must be a competent knitter  Class will be held in (2) two-hour sessions. Note that the October session is for cuff-down socks, and the November version is for toe up socks!

Fair Isle I Class
Introduction to Fair Isle

Instructor: Sheila Joynes                                                Class Fee: $55
Description:   Learn the basics of two handed, stranded color knitting called Fair Isle.  Class will include some history, techniques and materials used in Fair Isle.  Class projects are Fair Isle cowl and hat.  3 two-hour sessions for a total of 6 hours of instruction, plus on-going support group.

Advanced Fair Isle

Instructor: Sheila Joynes                                                          Class Fee: $55
Description:   Fair Isle technique class including an introduction to steeks.  Students will have a choice of projects:  doll mini-sweater or adult size vest in the "Hydrangea" pattern.  Students may choose another project with prior approval of instructor.   Note:  Fair Isle Color Theory class or previous Fair Isle experience is required.  4 two-hour sessions for a total of 8 hours of instruction, plus on-going support group.

Fair Isle Color Theory

Instructor: Sheila Joynes                                                          Class Fee: $65
Description:   Learn about the use of color in Fair Isle.  Each student will choose colors for a hat project to make it "their own" design.  Students will learn different techniques for motivation of color and why the rules of colors in Fair Isle work.  Students will swatch, design and knit their own hat.  Yarn for swatching included in class fee.  (3) two-hour sessions for a total of 6 hours of instruction, plus ongoing support groups.

Technique Class

Description:   This class all those techniques that are used in knitting and where and when to use them.  Cast on, cast off, decreases, increases, correcting mistakes, gauge, lifelines, materials, yarns, joins, and yarn standards.  This is a fantastic class for beginners and experienced knitters, too.  Class is held in two one-hour sessions.

Japanese Short Row Socks

Description:  Fantastic for using that self-striping sock yarn you've got in your stash!  Learn to knit a sock using only short rows and Japanese short row techniques.  This technique gives you a crazy design!  You must be a confident sock knitter to take this class.  (1) three hour session

Refootable Sock

Instructor: Caryn Ackerman                                       Class Fee: $25
Description:   Learn to knit a refootable sock from the cuff down.  The heel, bottom and toe of the sock are knit in such a way that they can easily be taken out later and reknit.  This is a sock making technique.  You will be able to convert any standard sock pattern into a refootable version.  You must be a sock knitter already to take this class.  Pattern provided.

Custom Fit Sweater

Instructor: Sheila Joynes                                                            Class Fee: $80
Description:   Learn how to design your own custom fit pullover or cardigan sweater (knit in the round) based on the Elizabeth Zimmerman Percentage System.  If knitting a cardigan, students will learn how to do the steek method.  Yarn choices and sweater design possibilities will be discussed in the first class.  Class is held in (6) two-hour sessions for a total of 12 hours of instruction.  Textbook required.

Neck-Down Cardigan Sweater

Pattern Drafting & Knitting Japanese Techniques  New!!

Description:   Offered in eight 2.5 hour sessions, this highly specialized class is like no other.  During class, students will knit a round neck pullover vest or shell from scratch (no pattern) using Japanese techniques.  Learn the exacting Japanese method of drafting your own personalized patterns and learn how to knit to fit without following someone else's pattern.  This is an amazing opportunity that you won't find everywhere else!  Sessions will start when we have a firm commitment from the required number of students.  More info will be available at the shop regarding dates/times.  Students will have a $20 fee payable to the instructor for the Japanese Gauge ruler.

Block Party

Description:   Learn new techniques while completing a beautiful afghan one block at a time.   Students will use Sandy's AGYS exclusive pattern to complete 12 blocks, and will also learn how to create the connecting strips and how to assemble the final product.  This class is held on an on-going basis - students may start any time and work at their own pace.  Patterns are included in the class fee.  Classes are held on the 4th Wednesday and 3rd Saturday of each month.
